Who Gets to Use the Overbed Table? Introducing the medViron Overbed Table Care Pod
The hospital overbed table is one of the most frequently used surfaces in the patient room—but who gets to use it? Patients rely on their overbed table for meals, personal devices, reading materials and everyday belongings, while caregivers may also need space for supplies and materials during routine bedside care.
That shared use can create a simple problem as there is only so much tabletop space available. As supplies, paperwork and other items accumulate, the usable surface available to the patient can become smaller.
Separating Patient Space from Caregiver Storage
Under-table storage creates an opportunity to separate two functions: usable tabletop space for the patient and accessible storage for the caregiver. Caregiver-facing open storage provides a convenient location for items such as gloves, wipes, gauze, tape, patient education materials and other lightweight supplies without requiring them to be placed on the tabletop.
It can also function as a temporary staging area during routine bedside care. A caregiver can bring the materials needed for a task into the room, place them below the tabletop and retrieve them as needed. When the task is complete, the remaining materials can be removed.
This approach allows the tabletop to remain available for patient use while keeping caregiver supplies close at hand.
The Care Pod for the 39″ medViron Overbed Table
The optional Care Pod was developed around this concept. Positioned beneath the MedViron 39″ Overbed Table or MedViron 39″ Sotto Overbed Table, the open compartment provides caregiver-accessible storage.
The Care Pod can accommodate lightweight supplies, patient-care materials, paperwork and other items caregivers may want close at hand during routine bedside activities. Its open design allows caregivers to place and retrieve items without opening a drawer or cabinet. Most importantly, it gives those items a place to go other than the tabletop.
