One-Handed Height Adjustment: A Small Detail That Changes Everything
Stop doing things the hard way...
Watch how a nurse adjusts an overbed table.
Often, they don’t just reach for a lever and smoothly reposition the surface. Instead, they step on the base and lift with both hands. An experienced nurse expects the overbed table to be difficult to adjust because so many of them are.
That behavior isn’t random. It’s learned.
Many overbed tables are difficult to adjust. Releasing the mechanism and moving the surface at the same time often requires two hands. Over time, caregivers adapt. What should be a simple adjustment becomes a physical task.
When it becomes necessary to raise or lower an overbed table, nurses may be holding equipment, supporting a patient, or managing another task at the same time. In those moments, a two-handed adjustment is not practical.
MedViron overbed tables can be raised and lowered with one hand, removing that difficulty.

A properly designed pneumatic system allows the caregiver or patient to raise the height of the table with one hand and lower the table simply by pressing inward on the activation lever and guiding the surface downward.
This changes how the table is used.
For patients, it allows small adjustments to be made independently, without needing assistance. For caregivers, it allows the table to be repositioned in the moment, without stopping what they are doing.
The difference is not in the feature itself. Most overbed tables adjust. The difference is whether that adjustment works the way the environment requires. In practice, when adjustment depends on two hands, it becomes more difficult to perform in the moment.
A table that can be raised and lowered with one hand better reflects how patients and caregivers actually interact with it. That is where a small design decision has a measurable impact.
